Death card

Day 27
Everything here is new to me today. Tarot cards and blackout or erasure poetry.

The prompt I used: “And now for today’s (optional) prompt. Following Lauren Hunter’s practice of relying on tarot cards to generate ideas for poems, we challenge you to pick a card (any card) from this online guide to the tarot, and then to write a poem inspired either by the card or by the images or ideas that are associated with it.”

So I picked a card – Death – and then searched for an explanation. I copied and pasted the text and then used MS Word to blackout words, using my twist Both images are below along with tge writeout of the poem.

Future change of life will be significant.
Loss leads forward. Embrace the end.
Things change suddenly, move perspective ahead. Continue with heart.

waking up is hard to do

As the alarm gently plays
she rolls over slowly
stifling a groan and presses snooze.
Knees legs stiff as pulled taffy,
shoulders tight,
head pounding.

She places the cpap mask on the nightstand,
moaning, she sits up gingerly
waiting for some equilibrium
and turning off the annoying alarm.

After Standing up slowly
she walks to the bathroom,
ensuring that her balance is intact
makes her way to the kitchen and
pours a cup of freshly made coffee, thanks to her partner.
She sits down slowly holding onto the table.

Ah…. Coffee.

She sniffs the aroma drifting in the air.

The first sip of the dark black coffee is comforting.

the warmth of the cup helps to start awaking her fuzzy brain,

as she starts reading email and posts.

Will the headache leave or remain?

And thus the day begins.
