They Can’t Breathe

Written July 1, 2020 (Elderwriter class exercise- freestyle poetry) Edited today

They Can’t Breathe

The sadness they feel
Is heavy, like steel
No bending or breaking
Will they ever heal?

Say their names
One by one
Their lives are gone
By a pointed gun

Say their names
There are more than three
Their lives are gone
By the weight of a knee
